Started the experiment to simulate a flight to Mars

At the Institute of biomedical problems started the experiment on simulation of a manned flight to Mars in the framework of the international project “Mars-500”.

The participants, six people will spend 105 days in a special complex, which will simulate a space ship. The experiment will include studies associated with the study of the proteome – the set and of the functioning of the human proteins. In particular, scientists will study the effects of extreme conditions on proteins.

In the experiment “Mars-500” does not play study on the effect of factors such as weightlessness and increased radiation levels.

Scientists will study the effect of prolonged hypokinesia on the mineralization of bone. For this purpose the camera will be used in the peripheral scanner. Participants also will experience a special garment, created with the use of nanotechnology.

Specialists will be engaged in the study of peculiarities of physiological and psychological adaptation of crew members to conditions of Autonomous living and working. Will be studied the interaction of the crew with the personnel of the control center under the changed conditions of communication. In addition, will be checked means of life support and scientific hardware.

Only the application form for participation in experimentatal 6 thousand people. Of these, only ten were selected, six of which were included in the team.

The Commission decided not to include women in the composition of the participants. However, perhaps they’ll take in 520-day experiment. It starts at the end of this year.

Inside the ground test facilities include two dozen video cameras, data from which will be fed to the control center.

“The evacuation of individual crew members due to illness or optionally equal to “death” astronaut,” says the Institute of biomedical problems. It would hold 72 scientific research. The chamber consists of four modules. Their total area is 550 cubic meters
